Limits on maximum number of items circulated to one patron at one time will vary in each library.
Items may be renewed in person, by telephone, or online through the Library website. Three-week items will be renewed for three weeks. One-week items are renewed for one week. Patrons may renew items two times. It there is a reserve on the item by another patron, the item cannot be renewed and must be returned by the original due date. This policy applies only to items owned by the Carroll and Madison Library System.
Return Borrowed Materials
Books and other borrowed materials may be returned to any library in the Carroll and Madison Library System. The exception to this is an item borrowed through Interlibrary Loan system. Interlibrary Loans must be returned to the library circulating the requested item.
For library items kept past the date due, the patron will be notified by mail and reminded that the items are overdue. Four notices are sent; the fourth notice is an invoice for the item. At that time, the account is blocked from further activity. Library cards may be invalidated for patrons with more than one overdue until overdue is cleared.

Reserving an Item Owned by Library
Patrons may request an item currently checked out to another patron in person, by telephone, or online through the Library website. When the requested item is available, the patron will be contacted. The item is held for seven days after notification.
Patrons may request items not available in the library’s collection either in person or by telephone. Patrons must have a valid library card to use this service. An Interlibrary Loan Request Form must be completely filled out by the staff member or the patron.
Although there is no limit to the number of requests accepted from a patron at one time, patrons are urged to consider the short loan period available to them for Interlibrary Loans and make their requests accordingly. The costs for overdue, damaged or lost Interlibrary Loan items are determined by the lending library.
